Color science on Evo 2 Pro

Have you tried using Autel's LUT? It's not in the Resolve package, but you can import it. There is no Autel CST in Resolve, so Davinci Managed Color isn't really an option , but you could shoot an X-rite color checker and color match in Resolve. From there, you could easily make your own LUT...

Unable to fly due to freezing Temp.

INteresting. I wonder if something like Rain-X would work at all.

Evo 3 coming in 2022 (maybe). What will this mean for the Evo 2?

I'm a Nikon shooter for stills too, and I totally agree with you on their choices of media. Always solid. The Evo II is not too compact to support a bigger, more robust card format. And I agree on flare as well. I'd even be happy if the flares just weren't so damn ugly!

Evo 3 coming in 2022 (maybe). What will this mean for the Evo 2?

I’m not sure who a 4x3 sensor would be for? I’m primarily a video shooter, so I live in 16x9. Or occasionally in dci 4K (4096 x 2160) which is even wider. Yes, I’d like to see a wider bus that would allow a less-compressed data stream, but even ProRes at 6K will be under 300 Mbits. It’s not...

Evo 3 coming in 2022 (maybe). What will this mean for the Evo 2?

I don't disagree with anything you say here. Except maybe that 100Mbit mp4s are "more than adequate." They're adequate, but not really more than that. And you're right, none of the influencers are really concerned about quality at all, so it's a non-issue for them. And for 1080 delivery...

Evo 3 coming in 2022 (maybe). What will this mean for the Evo 2?

In line with what you say here, the biggest thing Autel could do to improve the video image quality in the Evo 3 would be to increase the data rate so they can decrease the amount of compression. CF Express (Type B, please) would certainly help that cause.

OPEN LETTER - Upgrade Path from V1 to V2

I suggested something similar to Randall before he left. I bought my drone (as with much of by photo gear) from B&H, and was on their notification list for the V1 controller. They never got to the preorder stage, and then it was discontinued. Frustrating. I do understand the issues that made...

Just the basic hobbie flying question

That surprises me. I change the timeline res to go between 1080 and 4K all the time. I’ll have to look at those settings when I’m at the computer to see if I can figure what’s up.

Just the basic hobbie flying question

You could still edit on a 1080 timeline. But if you change the resolution to 2K when you output for YouTube, Resolve would scale everything once, rather than downscaling then uprezzing for the 2K. I'd everything it would benefit just a bit—even the scenes that are recomposed at 2x.

    Smart Controller from Autelpilot

B&H Photo just sent me a notice that the SC is discontinued, and I would not be available for purchase.

Just the basic hobbie flying question

That’s interesting. I’ll have to try that. FWIW, in Resolve, you could just change the timeline resolution to 2k for the output, and since you’re downscaling from 4K probably improve quality just a shade more.

Why I NEVER use ND Filters With Drone Cameras

I’d say you’re right about that. (That part of the problem is semantic.) What you call strobing, I would call flicker. (As in HMI flicker or “FLICKERfree” lighting.) I call it strobing because it reminds me of the staccato motion you get with strobe lights in a dark room. Strobing is not...

Considering a purchase of the Pro model

Another related issue that might come into play here is compression. In panning a wide shot like many drone shots, a lot of image is being replaced every frame, and if there’s a lot of detail (trees, ripples on water) it’s extremely demanding for a codec like h.264 that depends on a long gop...

TO BE noticed OR NOT TO BE noticed? That is the question.

    Isn’t psychology wonderful! LOL!

Just the basic hobbie flying question

I think all of the online platforms re-encode everything. In most cases, they encode several different copies with different data rates and resolutions, then match them to the bandwidth they sense going to the viewer system. That’s why it’s so important to upload as lightly compresses a version...
