I do rc planes. It's more fun than *most* drones.... meaning full aerobatic drones are pretty exhilarating. A plane like the one in the video is quite expensive. It sounds so good, because the engine is actually a miniturized version of the real thing. Those engines alone cost several thousand dollars. But, on the flip side, a medium sized plane, with the kind of electric motors we use on the quads, can be had for a little over $100, on up to around $300. The transmitters can be had for as little as $60, for a 4 channel (which is the minimum required for a plane that operates like a real airplane).
Look for local clubs, which have an airfield. Most require membership with the AMA, in the states. That's $75 a year, but, covers your azz with insurance, if something bad happens. On the up side... nobody messes with planes. The AMA is self regulating, and the gov stays off their back.
